MATH & Science PROJECT
Fact: The average size of horses varies greatly with the breed. The height is measured from the top of the withers to the ground and is estimated in “hands”. A hand is approximately four inches.
Directions: Research the following breeds of horses to find their height in hands. Then compare the horse’s height to that of a Clydesdale which is about 18 hands in height and weighs over 2,000 pounds.
The Breeds: Abyssinian, American Cream Draft, American Morgan, American Saddlebred, Anadolu, Andravida, Arenberg-Nordkirchen, Bali, Black Forest, and Bitish Spotted Pony
